Higher Fire Flyer

As May 3, 1997 nears, a kind of spiritual anxiety permeates my life. For the past few months, I have been feeling a powerful surge of transformative energy moving through myself. Only recently, however, have I become aware of the spiritual significance involved with my 27th birthday. Allow me to share this information with you as a manner of integrating this special meaning into my life, and to possibly bring more illumination into yours.

The ancient numerologist Pythagoras is perhaps best known for the fundamental theorem named for him, which states that the square of the hypotenuse of a right triangle is equal to the sum of the squares of the sides containing the right angle. What we aren't taught in high school geometry class, however, is the inherent meaning within this theorem. Besides being a philosopher and mathematician, Pythagoras was also a mystic--contributing much towards the foundation of esoteric, transcendental knowledge. The original Pythagorean theorem, other wise know as the Divine Triangle, was developed as a kind of blueprint for an individual's life.

In the chart above, we see three major cycles of 27 years each, which are divided again into three minor sections of 9 years each. The cycles of Youth, Power, and Wisdom correlate respectively to the elements of Water, Earth, and Air. In the center we see the Divine Triangle, the cycle of Spirit, correlating to the element of Fire. We start at age zero, moving along the outer rim, and if we live past 81, we begin again, this time moving along the inner rim of the triangle. As we had once emerged from the Divine Fire into this life, it will be our return into the Divine Fire after our death. There are several points along the way--at ages 27, 54, and 81--when the fire of spirit, the central element of our life and being, touches us most directly. During these periods there is a burning out of old patterns which no longer serve us--allowing us the potential for radical transformation.

In observance of this time, and in reverence to the eternal, spiritual fire within each of us--the archetypical representation of fire will be central to my birthday event. Whether you will be joining me in this celebration or not, I encourage you to participate in your own way by acknowledging the spiritual fire within your own life and being.

Allow me to prescribe to you a new theorem for life: the length of our Spirit is equal to the sum of our Youth, our Power, and our Wisdom--SQUARED. In the alchemical synthesis of our individual parts, we exceed ourselves--rising like sparks from the blaze--upward, even above the flames themselves.
